ETOC LPN Program Core Competencies include:
Patient care: LPNs should be able to provide basic care to patients, including taking vital signs, administering medication, assisting with personal hygiene, and monitoring patients’ overall health.
Communication: LPNs should be able to communicate effectively with patients, families, and other members of the healthcare team. This includes listening actively, asking questions, and providing clear and concise instructions.
Nursing process: LPNs should be able to use the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and valuate patient care. They should be familiar with nursing diagnoses, care plans, and documentation.
Safety and infection control: LPNs should be able to maintain a safe and clean environment for patients, follow proper infection control protocols, and identify and respond to safety hazards.
Pharmacology: LPNs should have a basic understanding of pharmacology, including drug classifications, dosage calculations, and medication administration.
Anatomy and physiology: LPNs should have a basic understanding of human anatomy and physiology, including the structure and function of major organ systems.
Professionalism: LPNs should demonstrate professional behavior in all interactions with patients, families, and other members of the healthcare team. This includes maintaining confidentiality, respecting cultural diversity, and adhering to ethical and legal standards.
Critical thinking: LPNs should be able to think critically and use problem-solving skills to identify and address patient care issues.
Teamwork: LPNs should be able to work collaboratively with other members of the healthcare team to provide high-quality patient care.
Lifelong learning: LPNs should be committed to ongoing professional development and continuing education to maintain and improve their skills and knowledge.
